Chemical Fingerprinting of the Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) Essential Oil by Using FTIR, Raman and GC-MS Techniques

Geranium oil is known as a floral substitute of rose essential with its pungent rose-like odor and one the most valuable oils. Favorable quality properties make geranium exigible for food industry applications. This study determined chemical fingerprint using robust vibrational spectroscopy techniques (Fourier transform infrared Raman spectroscopy). The mid-infrared characterization was accomplished on basis functional groups oil. GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy) technique used detection quantification volatile constituents 37 (thirty-seven) compounds were by analysis. abundant Citronellol (30.68 %), Geraniol (9.68%) Citronelly formate (9.90%).
